A Restaurant Hidden Beneath a Giant Rock Bluff
What makes Rattlesnake Saloon so extraordinary is its location.
Rather than sitting inside a traditional restaurant building, much of the dining area is tucked beneath a huge natural rock overhang surrounded by wooded countryside.
Rustic wooden tables, Old West-inspired decorations, and a laid-back atmosphere give the restaurant the feeling of an old-fashioned frontier saloon.
The enormous rock formation provides a dramatic backdrop unlike almost any other dining destination in Alabama.
And on select occasions, visitors can even enjoy live music while relaxing beneath the bluff.

The Adventure Begins With the Saloon Taxi
Getting to Rattlesnake Saloon is part of the experience!
After arriving at Seven Springs Lodge, visitors park in the designated parking area and wait for the Saloon Taxi.
This shuttle transports guests down the hillside to the restaurant, adding a little extra excitement before the meal even begins.
The restaurant asks guests to remain in the parking area until the shuttle arrives and tables become available.
Personal vehicles are not permitted beyond the marked entrance to the hillside.
The unique arrival makes visiting Rattlesnake Saloon feel more like an adventure than an ordinary restaurant outing.

The Fascinating History Behind Rattlesnake Saloon
The story behind this unusual restaurant is almost as interesting as the location itself.
The property has belonged to the Foster family since 1916, when Owen Foster purchased the first portion of what would eventually become a large family-owned property.
Over the years, the land was used for farming, timber, and other agricultural purposes.
The enormous rock shelter that now houses Rattlesnake Saloon was once used as a hog pen!
Years later, the family developed Seven Springs Lodge, creating a destination for outdoor recreation, horseback riding, and visitors looking to experience the natural beauty of Northwest Alabama.
The idea for a restaurant eventually followed, and Rattlesnake Saloon officially opened during Labor Day weekend in 2009.
Even the restaurant's unusual name has an interesting story.
During construction, workers discovered a rattlesnake den containing a mother snake and twelve young snakes. That discovery inspired the name Rattlesnake Saloon.
Today, the restaurant has welcomed visitors from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.
